2. Outside Windmill Downs

These photos are all “as is” and taken by myself around our home without artistic adjustments. The entry shows the wide driveway with room for 10 cars. Off-street parking outside homes near the City is very limited so private car spaces are valuable. There is also a bus running every 15 minutes from Rottingdean along the coast. We are 100 metres from the coast road with a brick wall and hedge along the full boundary. Nevill Road is a "closed road" with no vehicle access to the High Street. We are therefore not affected by coastal traffic noise.

The eastern sunrises are wonderful from all bedrooms and living rooms. The east view through a telescope is very clear across the Marina and Brighton Pier to Shoreham by Sea 10 miles away.

The house faces due south allowing sunshine on all sides. The large double glazed windows capture useful winter heat and all open in the summer when temperatures go to 30C outside.

The Hydrotherapy Spa seats 6 and runs all year round with little maintenance. You can adjust water temperature from 25C to 40C and all round insulation reduces energy use. Over 50 water pressure settings improve blood circulation and relaxation. It has wireless music speakers.

The seperate garden room is brick built on foundations with a large patio area and rear lockable door to the South Downs National Park and 60 acres of Beacon Hill Nature Reserve. This is a very happy chatty area for community dog walkers around the Beacon Hill kiosk and this helps newcomers get to meet and greet the local community.

The Beacon Hub Brighton is a small charity I co-founded with a 25 year lease of the site from City Council. The site was a previous golf course and the council agreed to change its use into a nature reserve for local dog walkers with the small golf cabin space used for eco education and arts projects.

It rarely snows in the winter due to the sea keeping temperatures higher. When it does it’s very pretty. We stocked the garden with over 300 hardy perennial shrubs and hedgerows which survive the winter. They attract summer bird life, especially starling murmurations from the pier, and local hedgehogs

The rear garden and spa area is totally private with no neighbours visible. The sunsets over the Marina and the City are simply stunning and Beacon Hill is a designated United Nations Dark Sky protected location.
